Egyptian Goddess Jewellery
The Predynastic Goddess, also known as the "Goddess with raised arms" is one of the earliest symbols from ancient Egyptian mythology. It is speculated that the position of her arms may echo the shape of the horns of the sacred cow as depicted on the "cow palette" and in representations of the bovine goddess Hathor who was herself one of the most ancient of the Egyptian gods. From the Old Kingdom a number of goddesses were depicted with wings, in particular Isis, Nephthys, Nekhbet, Wadjet and Maat. Their outstretched wings offered protection to the living and the dead.
Malachite and Turquoise were both closely associated with Hathor and Red Jasper and Lapis more often associated with Isis, while Carnelian was linked with the powerful lion goddess Sekhmet. Amethyst was thought to give courage and associated with pharonic power while Black Onyx represented the fertile soil of the Nile.
